전교생들의 사진과 이름을 교장실에 붙여 놓고
학생들의 이름을 거의 다 외우는 분이셨습니다.
학생들에 대한 애정이 어찌나 깊었던지
심지어는 어떤 학생이 누구랑 사귀고, 헤어지고, 방황하는지
학생들의 개인적인 사건사고까지
속속들이 꿰뚫고 있었다고 합니다.

교장 선생님의 진심어린 이임사의 내용은 이랬습니다.

“여러분, 매일 매일 짧은 시간이라도
내면의 소리에 귀를 기울이시기 바랍니다.
인생을 하루 24시간에 비유한다면
여러분은 새벽 5시가 조금 넘는 시간,
동트는 무렵에 있습니다.

포기하거나 피하지 말고 도전하기 바랍니다.
성실히 살면서 차근차근 준비하다보면
여러분이 원하는 것들을
자신도 모르게 성취하게 될 것입니다.”

학생들은
‘진심으로 축하드립니다.’
‘이런 기쁜 일이 왜 이리 슬플까요’ 등
정성어린 손 팻말을 줄줄이 들고 서있습니다.

이날 학생, 교사 700명이 하트를 만들어
교장 선생님의 마지막을 배웅했습니다.
교장 선생님의 눈가에도 눈물이 어렸습니다.
