할머니의 ‘사탕 두 개’

“할머니가 사라지셨어요!”

다급한 신고전화가 경찰서에 접수 되었습니다.
할머니는 얼마 전 신장 수술을 받고
그 후유증으로 걸음걸이가 불편한 상태였습니다.

어디로 가셨을까요?
가족들의 걱정은 태산 같았습니다.

할머니를 찾아 경찰관들이 골목골목을 순찰하던 중
꽃무늬 바지에 보따리를 든
할머니가 눈에 띄었습니다.
할머니는 다리가 불편해
겨우 겨우 걸음을 옮기고 있었죠.

한 경찰관이 할머니께 등을 내밀었습니다.

“할머니 업어 드릴게요.”

할머니의 몸은 마른 장작처럼 왜 이리 가벼울까요?

할머니를 업은 경찰관은
골목길을 돌고 돌아 집을 찾아드렸습니다.
잘 들어가시라고 꾸벅 절하며 돌아서는데
할머니는 불쑥 사탕 두개를 내밀었습니다.

“할머니가 주는 거니까 받아도 돼.”

가족들을 위해 작은 체구로
평생을 애쓰셨을 할머니…
눈시울이 뜨거워집니다.
